Arrangements for New Intake Children start school in the September of the academic year in which they turn five. Warwickshire County Council is responsible for overseeing the admissions procedure for children beginnning their first year in maintained schools. If you wish to send your child to St Mary Immmaculate it is important that you place the school first on your preference form. The transition from home to school is a key time for any child. Our wish is to make this transistion as smooth as possible for each child , providing security and developing self-confidence. For many children school will be the first time away from home and a whole day can be very tiring for a young child. A tired child is a unhappy, fretful child who does not find school an enjoyable experience. Parents and children are invited to attend two sessions in Reception at the end of the preceeding summer term to help the children familiarise themselves with their new environment. The first few weeks We have planned a gradual entry to school, as follows: Week 1: Children will attend for mornings only and parents are asked to collect their children at 12.00 noon. Week 2: Children will stay for the dinner break and parents are asked to collect their children at 12.30pm Week 3: Children will attend full time Home Visits Parents are offered the opportunity of a home visit by the class teacher in the first two weeks of term to allow them to share information and discuss any anxieties in a relaxed, informal way. It is also an opportunity for the teacher to visit the child in more familiar surroundings and strengthen trust in the pupil / teacher relationship. It also helps to develop closer home / school links. Arrangements for a home visit can be made with the class teacher in the first week of term.
